Lightning has long strawberry-blonde hair and is 170 cm tall (5'7"). For her design, character designer Tetsuya Nomura was asked to create a "female version of Cloud Strife from Final Fantasy VII". During development, he described her as "not very feminine".[18] Lightning wields a combination of a gun and a sword and can also manipulate gravity with a device on her thumb.[19] In battle, she is agile and uses acrobatic moves. She can also summon the Eidolon Odin to fight by her side in battle, who can assume a horse-like form that she can ride on. Her l'Cie mark is in the center of her chest. Her Japanese voice actress is Maaya Sakamoto.[20]
2. Snow Villiers Prior to becoming a l'Cie, Snow is the head of Team Nora, a resistance group against Cocoon.[21] After becoming a l'Cie, Snow gains the power to summon the ice Eidolon Shiva, which takes the form of two sisters, Nix (二クス, Nikusu?) and Styria (スティリア, Sutiria?), who can combine into a motorcycle form for Snow to ride while toting a large gun.[22] He is a big character and is capable of running while carrying two people.[23] He was nicknamed "Mr. 33 cm" by the staff of Final Fantasy XIII as a nod to his shoe size.[24] In the October 2008 issue of Weekly Shonen Jump magazine, it is revealed that he uses a power that is related to the l'Cie mark on his left forearm.[25] He uses his fists to take down opponents, focusing on brute force compared to the fast and agile Lightning. His Japanese voice actor is Daisuke Ono.[20
3. Oerba Dia Vanille (ヲルバ=ダイア・ヴァニラ, Woruba-Daia Vanira?) Vanille is a young girl with red-brown hair worn in pigtails who lives in Pulse.[14] Her weapon is a kind of foldable fishing rod with multiple lines that can be reeled.[26][27] In a trailer, she is seen captured by the Cocoon army and walking in a funeral procession. In the demo and trailers, she narrates many of the events. She is first seen with the rebel leader Snow when he hands her a gun to defend those being forced to leave Cocoon; she is then seen with Hope, watching as the rebels lose the battle against the soldiers. As a l'Cie, she can summon the Eidolon Carbuncle, which can assume a disc form. Her Japanese voice actress is Yukari Fukui.[20] Her English voice actress is the Australian comedian Georgia van Cuylenburg.[28]
4. Sazh Katzroy (サッズ・カッツロイ, Sazzu Kattsuroi?) Sazh is a man with an afro whom Lightning knows from her time serving in the military. Sazh wields dual pistols, and his strong point is striking enemies from a distance. His l'Cie mark is at the base of his neck. He has a six-year-old son called Dajh, whose mother died three years prior to the game. Sazh gets separated from his son during the game, and reuniting with his son is his main motivation.[29] He also has a pet baby chocobo that lives inside his afro. Sazh is described as having good judgment and moral discernment. He has a gentle personality and is easily moved to tears, and joins the party early in the game. His Eidolon is the fire summon Ifrit, who can transform into a race car.[30] His Japanese voice actor is Masashi Ebara.
5. Hope Estheim (ホープ・エストハイム, Hōpu Esutohaimu?)[15] Hope is a fourteen-year-old boy with silvery-blonde hair and orange, yellow, and green clothing. He uses boomerangs in battle. He is first seen in the game demo wearing the same Purge attire as Vanille, when his mother offers to help Snow and Team Nora fight off PSICOM. She dies during the battle, and though Snow honors her final request to protect her son, Hope nonetheless hates Snow for his connection to her death. In the game, Hope is seen arguing with Snow about helping the l'Cie.[27] He is later seen with Vanille fighting off a horde of Cie Corpses. His Japanese voice actor is Yūki Kaji.
Other characters
In the Jump Festa 2009 and the official global trailer, three characters who are part of Snow's resistance group, NORA, are seen in the hijack of the captives' train.
1. One is Gadot (ガドー, Gadō?), a man with orange hair and dark olive skin. He uses a machine gun in battle, providing quick assistance when it comes to executing combos.
2. The second is Lebreau (レブロ, Reburo?), a black-haired woman with a butterfly tattoo on her shoulder and a sense of invincibility. She uses a shotgun in combat and acts as the team healer.
Gadot and Lebreau are said to be childhood friends of Snow.[8]
3. The third is Maqui (マーキー, Mākī?), a relatively younger, blond-haired, worrisome man with goggles on his head. These three characters were designed by Nao Ikeda, who based their clothing sports, having been inspired by NBA, beach volleyball, and snowboarding fashions, respectively.[31] The four known members of NORA are featured in the Final Fantasy XIII demo, although Maqui does not participate in battles.[6]
The trailers at the DKΣ3173 event in Tokyo in 2008 and E3 2009 feature two Lieutenant Colonels of the Cocoon army who oppose Lightning and the other l'Cie:
1. Jihl Nabaat (ジル・ナバート, Jiru Nabāto?), an intelligent but cruel woman with knee-length blond hair and glasses who interrogates the captive Vanille in the trailers,
2. and Yaag Rosch (ヤーグ ロッシュ, Yāgu Rosshu?), an intimidating-looking man with a scar on his forehead and silver hair that is tied back in a ponytail. Rosch is Nabaat's right-hand man and Lightning's former superior.[32]
During Gamescom 2009, producer Yoshinori Kitase confirmed two more characters.
1. The first is Serah Farron (セラ・ファ ロン, Sera Faron?), Lightning's younger sister. Like Lightning, Serah is a l'Cie, and her l'Cie mark is on her left arm. Serah is romantically involved with Snow (a relationship of which Lightning does not approve), but something happens to her that forces Lightning and Snow to team up to save her. Though she plays a central role in the game, it has not yet been revealed whether or not she will be a playable character.
2. The second character revealed during Gamescom is Sazh's son, Dajh (ドッジ, Dojji?), whose mother died when he was three. The baby Chocobo that rides around in Sazh's afro actually belongs to Dajh, who bought it at a gift shop during their travels together. When they meet at some point during the game, Sazh is very surprised to see him. It is believed that Jihl Nabaat turns Dajh 'into a crystal', but what this means has yet to be confirmed.[33]

Final Fantasy vs 13 Characters
Heros
1. Noctis Lucis Caelum The protagonist of Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Noctis Lucis Caelum (ノクティス・ルシス・チェラム, Nokutisu Rushisu Cheramu?), is the last heir to the Caelum Dynasty, which rules over the only remaining city-state that controls the Crystals. Noctis attempts to protect his city-state against those who seek to conquer it and take the Crystals by force. Nomura has compared Noctis's family to the modern-day Japanese mafia.[10][11] The color of his eyes have been shown to change from blue to crimson during battle; according to Nomura, the color changes are both intentional and significant.[9] Noctis's full name is Latin (albeit incorrectly inflected) for "Light of the Night Sky,"[12][13] and his nickname is "Noct".[13]
Noctis wields many weapons, ranging from swords, spears, and lances to guns. He controls them with telekinesis (through the power of the Crystal), using them for both attack and defense. Nomura has stated that each weapon has a different usage and is not directly limited by normal standards of attack; for instance, some weapons are also usable as shields (as seen in the trailers).[14] Noctis also has the ability to teleport or to suddenly move at a high speed, though it is unknown what role this skill will have in the actual gameplay.
Noctis's personality is different from any other character in the Final Fantasy franchise (including that of Cloud Strife of Final Fantasy VII and Squall Leonhart of Final Fantasy VIII) and is one that Nomura had wanted to try out for a long time.[15] In the past, protagonists were given strong personalities while distinctive ones were delegated to the supporting cast, but Nomura states that Noctis's idiosyncrasies mark a departure from this tradition.[15] Although his character is said to be hard to define given his complexities,[13][16] a good measure of his personality can be sensed from his first meeting with Stella.[17] Noctis hides his shyness underneath a façade of coolness in front of him, which creates a cold and unsociable impression.[17] However, he smiles and acts more openly around his friends, [13][16] a testament to Nomura's statement that "[Noctis] is not the least bit a silent, gloomy little boy."[15]
Villains
1. Stella Nox Fleuret
Stella Nox Fleuret (ステラ・ノックス・フルーレ, Sutera Nokkusu Furūre?),[12][13] a young woman with blonde hair, is said to be the princess of the Fleuret family of the country Tenebrae (Latin for "darkness")[11][17] and an enemy to Noctis, though her allegiances are under suspicion.[citation needed] Stella Nox is Latin (albeit incorrectly inflected) for "Night Star."[citation needed] Fleuret is the French name of the fencing foil, a direct reference to Stella's weapon of choice, a rapier. Like Noctis, she is able to materialize weapons from thin air, as she is shown summoning her rapier from a rune similar to one used by Noctis to summon his sword, though Stella's rune is golden while Noctis's is blue.
Like that of Noctis, a good measure of Stella's personality can be sensed in her first meeting with Noctis.[17] For instance, in their discussion about the power they share (defined as a special ability to see the "light") and its connection to an old legend,[11] Stella is very open about the matter while Noctis seems reluctant to talk about it, suggesting that they keep it a secret.[17] Stella is described to be ladylike and extremely polite[18] but direct in her manner — a reflection of her proper but strong upbringing.[11][17] She acts according to her beliefs, and doesn't shy away from problems.[11][18] Nomura states that she will be the first to stand out from other female characters in the Final Fantasy franchise,[18] although it is not specified how.
Noctis has three companions who have been revealed in the video game magazine Famitsu.[verification needed] The first is a man with light brown hair and glasses who is seen wearing a suit and driving the protagonist's car. The second is a bulkier man with dark brown hair and a scar on the left side of his face. The third is a younger man with blond hair who is seen carrying a shotgun and teasing Noctis. These three people are Noctis' friends; they speak casually and amicably with him, and they also accompany him during his travels.
Another character, shown in a white cloak (possibly a symbolic contrast to the protagonist's darker clothing, which may imply another character foil), is seen facing off with Noctis in a building near Noctis' castle. Noctis approaches the character angrily, and they cast spells at each other, implying that they are enemies.[citation needed]
Soldiers have been featured in the trailers as well. These unknown warriors wear medieval-styled armor but carry assault rifles that resemble modern automatic weapons. Some of these soldiers are marauders trying to take the crystals as their own, as many of them attack Noctis.[citation needed]
Another man, older than Noctis and dressed in a business suit, is shown leading a meeting with several other men. He is seated at the head of a long table in a large room that resembles a cathedral

The thieves are ultimately thwarted, with the help of the real Vaan and Penelo, but they just take the Black Cat from the thieves for themselves. Petitioner for the quest "Pirate Problems."

Marnot has a rather bad habit of scheduling meetings with multiple women that he has met through these letters on the same day, which he resolves by simply posting a petition for someone to go meet these women posing as him. He has likely broken the hearts of quite a few women, causing one Seeq girl in particular to cry, prompting her two siblings to arrange a meeting with him so they could pay him back for doing so (although Luso is sent in his place). At some point, he falls for a Viera named Bcja who, in turn, falls for Al-Cid. Upon finding out about Bcja, Marnot posts a petition for someone to duel Al-Cid so that he may uphold his "honor." The researcher hired Clan Gully to carry out these tests, providing the clan with the seals that are required to access the hidden areas: the Star Seal, the Moon Seal, and the Sun Seal. The Stone with No Name later went on to appear in a fourth location there was also another Stone with No Name inside of Ruins of Delgantua, but unfortunately, Mauri passes away before his research can be complete.

Becomes concerned about the wellbeing of these ruins when monsters settle in Simoon dunes and posts a petition to get rid of them. Petitioner for the quest "Through Another's Eyes."
25. Sheni – A moogle machinist from Goug. Petitioner for the quest "Oh No, Kupo!"
